The Way of Wisdom: Let Honor Find You
Day 25 — 31 Days in Proverbs — The Way of Wisdom
Let Honor Find You
“Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.” — Proverbs 25:6–7
The Wisdom of Humility
Proverbs 25 gives us a picture of something we all feel at times: the temptation to elevate ourselves. We want to be noticed. We want recognition. We want people to see what we’ve accomplished.
But Solomon reminds us that wisdom chooses a different approach. Instead of pushing ourselves forward, wisdom walks in humility and allows honor to come naturally.
There is something powerful about a life that doesn’t constantly demand attention. When someone consistently demonstrates character, faithfulness, and integrity, people begin to notice.
Humility creates the space where honor can grow.
Let Your Character Speak
Our culture often encourages the opposite approach. We’re told to promote ourselves, highlight our achievements, and make sure others know what we’ve done.
But Proverbs suggests that the most meaningful recognition is the kind that is given rather than demanded. When your character speaks louder than your words, people begin to trust you. And trust creates influence.
Influence built through humility is far stronger than influence built through self-promotion.
Honor That Lasts
One of the beautiful things about humility is that it removes the pressure to constantly prove yourself. Instead of chasing recognition, you can focus on living faithfully where you are.
And over time, the right people will notice.
When honor finds you instead of you chasing it, it carries a weight and credibility that self-promotion never could.
