Whole Hearted Week: Primary Pursuit

We’re in the last few days of the fast. In fact, at publishing time, we are 82 hours from it ending.

So the question is simple: what will these final 82 hours look like for you?

Just persevering? Or pushing forward?

Because there’s a difference between hanging on and leaning in. There’s a difference between “I’m almost done” and “I’m going after God.”

Now, let me say this the right way. Yes, I want you to focus back in on what you’re believing for. Bring that prayer back to the front of your mind. Name it again. Ask again. But that’s the secondary goal.

The primary pursuit is this: to know Him more.

We’re not fasting to win a religious badge. We’re fasting for closeness. We’re not trying to impress God. We’re trying to be near Him. We’re not chasing an outcome more than we’re chasing His presence.

So can I invite you, as we finish our fast strong, to lock back in?

Go after Him. Get your focus back.
And just like we talked about yesterday, it’s one foot in front of the other. Not perfect. Just faithful. Not fast. Just steady.

And Proverbs 4 says it like a coach and a father at the same time:

Proverbs 4:25–27 (NIV)
“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.”

That is the assignment.

Eyes forward. Feet steady. Path chosen. No swerving.

Because most people don’t fall away on purpose. They drift. They get pulled sideways. They start looking around, comparing, craving, scrolling, numbing. And before they know it, their feet are on a path they never meant to be on.

But Scripture says, don’t look left, don’t look right. Look straight ahead. Fix your gaze.

A few truths for your day:

  • Direction beats intention.

  • Don’t drift. Align.

  • Don’t settle. Strike again.

So here’s the practical play for today.

First, fix your eyes.
Take five minutes and re-aim your attention toward Jesus. Worship in your car. Pray in your kitchen. Open the Word before you open anything else.

Second, give careful thought to your path.
What’s one place you’ve been drifting during the fast? Attitude. Entertainment. Compromise. Negativity. Short fuse. Secret sin. Whatever it is—don’t ignore it. Adjust your path.

Third, be steadfast.
Steadfast means you keep doing the right thing even when you don’t immediately see the results. You keep showing up. You keep praying. You keep seeking. You keep walking.

And yes, bring your requests to God. Name what you’re believing for again. But do it from the right posture.

God, I want You more than I want the breakthrough. But I believe You for the breakthrough because I’m with You.

Let’s finish strong. Not just by gritting our teeth, but by turning our face back toward Him.

Prayer

Jesus, for these final 82 hours, steady my eyes and steady my feet. I’m not drifting. I’m aligning. I’m not settling. I’m pressing in. Teach me to know You more. And yes, Lord, I bring You what I’m believing for—do what only You can do. But my first pursuit is You. Keep my foot from evil. Keep my heart clean. Keep my focus locked. One foot in front of the other. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Question for today

What’s one “look straight ahead” decision you can make in the next 10 minutes?
