The Way of Wisdom: Diligence Builds
Day 10 — 31 Days in Proverbs — The Way of Wisdom
Proverbs 10 draws a clear and honest contrast:
“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.” — Proverbs 10:4
“He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.” — Proverbs 10:5
There are seasons that quietly shape your future. And there are seasons you can miss without realizing what they were.
The one who gathers in summer understands something essential: timing matters. Opportunity does not remain open forever. There are moments when God places something in front of you and says, This is your window. And wisdom responds instead of postponing.
Diligence is not frantic effort. It is faithful action in the right season. It is recognizing that today’s obedience becomes tomorrow’s strength.
Harvest Seasons Matter
Sleeping during harvest does not look dramatic. It does not look rebellious. It looks comfortable. It looks distracted. It looks like assuming there will always be another chance.
But harvest seasons are limited.
There are seasons to rest. And there are seasons to gather. The wise discern the difference.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is show up consistently. Finish what you started. Lean into the opportunity while it is in front of you instead of assuming it will circle back around.
What you build in the right season multiplies later in ways you may not immediately see.
Build What Matters
This is not just about finances. It applies to your spiritual life. Your marriage. Your leadership. Your parenting. Your calling.
You build what you consistently give yourself to.
Small acts of diligence, repeated daily, become strength. Small acts of neglect, repeated daily, become regret.
So ask yourself honestly: Where is your harvest right now? Where has God placed opportunity in front of you that requires effort, focus, and faithfulness?
Diligence builds slowly. But it builds something strong enough to last.
