Creating Your Secret Place: A Journey of Desire and Decision
At Kingdom City, we believe the most important part of your life is the part no one else sees; your secret place with God. It’s not just a quiet corner or a good habit. It’s where real faith is formed.
Psalm 27:4 says, "One thing I ask of the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life..."
That verse isn’t just poetic, it’s passionate. David wasn't just talking about a church building. He was talking about a heart posture. He had a desire to be with God, and that desire turned into a decision that shaped his entire life.
Before David fought Goliath in public, he met with God in private. Before the throne, there was the field. Before the victory, there was the secret place.
Don’t Just Wish for It. Decide.
A lot of people want to be close to God. But desire without decision won't get you there. The secret place starts with making time, on purpose, to meet with God daily.
Let’s get practical:
Set a time. (Morning is powerful, but pick what works.)
Pick a place. (It doesn’t need to be perfect, just consistent.)
Bring your Bible, a journal, maybe some worship music.
Start with gratitude. Thank God. Praise Him.
Read. Write. Pray. Listen.
It’s not about performance, it’s about presence. Shut the door, silence the phone, and shut out the noise so you can hear the whisper.
Build It, Don’t Just Fit It In
If you try to squeeze God into your schedule, you’ll always be too busy. Build your schedule around Him. That’s what David did. That’s what Jesus taught.
"When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen..." — Matthew 6:6
This is how we grow. This is where God speaks. Not on the stage, but in the stillness. Not in the crowd, but in the quiet.
Stay Consistent, Even When It’s Hard
Let’s be real, not every moment in the secret place feels magical. Some days feel dry. Some days God feels distant. But stay. Show up. That’s where transformation happens.
Desire starts it. Decision fuels it. Discipline keeps it alive.
You’re not just doing a devotional, you’re becoming a disciple.
So here’s the challenge:
What’s your “one thing” right now?
Have you made a plan, or just hoped it would happen?
What would it look like for you to actually build a secret place?
Write it down. Set your alarm. Prepare your space. Open your Bible and your heart.
God is already there, and He is waiting to meet with you.
